Complaint BodyPlymouth City Council

SubjectHighways & Transport

Complaint Date22/05/2025

Reason For ComplaintThe council closed a public right of way without following the public path order procedure. They have not responded to numerous complaints including my second stage complaint.

Desired OutcomeThe public path order procedure is a legal process which has not been followed which includes advising the public of any right of way change and allowing them to oppose the closure through the correct channels. The land owners originally purchased the land from a public body with the knowledge of the paths existence and therefore should be maintained and kept open.
IssueI have lived in the area for 25 years and love the beautiful path,; indeed it has been documented as a public route used for at least 500 years. Using it keeps me and my family away from the longer and busy road road, which is both healthier and safer and as a result of its closure I walk less frequently. Furthermore as a result of the decreased footfall on the path, my local cafe and pub are at risk of closure, further compounding the impact that the paths closure has on me and my community.
